Varanasi is a magnificent city rising from the western bank of River Ganga. People call it Kashi - the luminous, City of Light. The temples and shrines, ashrams and pavilions that stretch along the river for over three miles are golden in the early morning.

Long flight of steps called Ghats bring thousands of worshipers down to the river to bathe at dawn. In the narrow lanes at the top of these steps moves the unceasing earthly drama of life and death, which the Hindus call Samsara, but here from the perspective of the Ganga River, there is a vision of the transcendence and liberation, which the Hindus call Moksha.

Zostel, Varanasi supports and provides a research space to Espírito Kashi (http://www.youtube.com/user/espiritokashi), an avant-garde media project working towards safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of India through the medium of documentary films. The team of ethnographers, who have been living in Varanasi for some years, provide heritage walks to our guests at discounted rates. We have collaborated with them to organise art and cultural events during weekends at Zostel, Varanasi.

There is little in the world to compare with the splendor of Banaras, seen from the river at dawn. Come experience it at Zostel!
